SOLUTIONS FOR SCHOOLS
Equitable Education provides educational consultancy and solutions for schools in closing the gaps with the following services:
If you require an external review of your whole current provision for either a specific group of pupils for whom closing the gap is an issue or for all groups then the School Closing the Gap diagnostic will be of interest to you. Alternatively, if performance in a particular curriculum area or aspect is of concern then the Aspect Closing the Gap diagnostic may be more relevant to your needs. Both diagnostics will provide a detailed report highlighting the strengths and areas for development, along with recommendations.
For schools and organisations wishing to have quality assurance and external verification of their provision and practice in closing the gaps then the Equitable Education Quality Mark (EEQM) will be of interest to you. The EEQM will allow you to self-evaluate your current status and give you the tools to embed excellence across the board, working with all your stakeholders. When you are ready for assessment you will submit your application online along with evidence of impact in closing the gaps to Equitable Education. This will then be verified by one of our assessors. Subject to the quality of evidence of impact submitted by your school or organisation you will receive either confirmation of your success or a report outlining further areas for development. The EEQM will allow you to demonstrate your commitment to closing the gaps, identify best practice for Ofsted and your stakeholders, as well as showing compliance with the Equalities Act 2010.
Equitable Education has also developed the Maher Strategy which is aimed at improving the educational outcomes of Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Somali and Yemeni heritage pupils. The Maher Strategy will enable you to build on the common cultural and religious capital that these communities have in order to improve teaching and curriculum opportunities, as well as proactively engaging pupils and their parents in their child's education. The Maher Strategy focuses specifically on improving learning in literacy and mathematics and there are many opportunities for cross curricular work, along with enrichment activities to engage all learners. The Maher Strategy can be tailor made and adapted to meet the needs of the Muslim communities you serve.
Equitable Education understands the pivotal role that academic language proficiency plays in examination success. We have developed a package of support called Academic Language Proficiency (ALP) which supports the development of high levels of academic literacy across the curriculum and ensures that teaching across your school or organisation focuses explicitly on teaching strategies that enhance the learning of ALP. This package of support will enhance the learning of pupils who are eligible for free school meals, as well as advanced bilingual learners.
Equitable Education appreciates the important role that Peer Tutoring can play in accelerating outcomes in learning for both tutors and tutees. We can work with you to set up Peer Tutoring programmes for reading, mathematics and spelling if these are identified priority areas for your schools. The peer tutoring programmes have been recognised by the Education Endowment Fund research undertaken by the Sutton Trust in July 2012, as having high impact, with the average gains being achieved of 6+ months. Peer Tutoring is relatively low cost to set up and implement, with evidence that children from disadvantaged backgrounds and low attaining pupils make the most gains through the use of this approach.
